Lobe Selection

Pink Obi Kola naturally forms with different numbers of lobes. Depending on availability, we may offer:

• Two-lobe obi
• Three-lobe obi
• Four-lobe obi
• Five-lobe obi
• Mixed-lobe obi

Availability varies by shipment and season. Each order is individually sorted and packaged by hand, with careful attention given to your selected lobe type. While we make every effort to provide untaped obi that matches your selection, a small number of taped obi or obi with a different lobe count may occasionally be included.

Quantity Estimates

Orders are filled by weight—not by an exact piece count.

• Half pound: approximately 14 – 16 whole obi
• 1 pound: approximately 28 – 33 whole obi
• 2 pounds: approximately 56 – 66 whole obi
• 5 pounds: approximately 140 – 165 whole obi
• 10 pounds: approximately 280 - 330 whole obi
• 20 pounds: approximately 560 - 660 whole obi

We may include extra pieces when available. Because obi naturally varies in size and weight, piece counts are estimates and are not guaranteed.

What Is Obi Kola?

Obi Kola nuts are traditionally used throughout West Africa for social, spiritual, and ceremonial purposes.

• Three-lobe obi: Often offered to Esu and Ogun.
• Four-lobe obi: Often offered to Orunmila and other Orisas, depending on the practitioner’s tradition and lobe-selection rituals.
• Five-lobe obi: May be adapted for practices requiring four lobes by removing the additional male or female lobe so that two male and two female lobes remain.

Practices and interpretations may vary by lineage and practitioner.

Obi Kola comes from the kola tree, including Cola acuminata and Cola nitida. Kola trees can grow approximately 40–60 feet tall and produce fruit containing nuts with different lobe formations. Fresh kola is bitter but may mellow as it dries.

Common names: Obi, Obi Kola, Kola Nut, Obi Abata, Cola Vera, Divination Nut, and African Kola Nut.

Obi Season

• Late spring through summer, April–August: Obi is typically smaller, with more pink obi available.
• August–September: Obi may be larger and more mature.
• September–April: Obi is scarcer and harder to source. Available supplies may be older or limited, and prices may increase.

Typical shipment periods may vary:

• Last shipment of the season: Late November through mid-December
• First shipment of the new season: Late January through mid-February

These timeframes are estimates and depend on availability, international shipping, customs, and agricultural clearance.

Shipping and Freshness Notes

This is a preorder item and is not currently ready to ship. Delivery may take 1–6 weeks or longer due to sourcing, supplier preparation, international transportation, customs, and agricultural inspections.

After the shipment arrives, orders generally take 1–7 days to inspect, process, and ship. Domestic orders are normally sent using a 2–3-day shipping service whenever possible.

Some obi may be taped to help keep the lobes together because they can naturally split as they mature or begin developing roots.

Obi may be wrapped in moist paper to help maintain freshness during shipping.

Cancellations & Refunds

• Cancel within seven calendar days of purchase for a full refund.
• After seven days, preorders are final and cannot be canceled or refunded.
• If we cannot fulfill all or part of your order, we will refund the unfulfilled portion.
• Orders cannot be canceled or changed after shipment.

Shipping & Customs

Processing and Delivery

• Local pickup: Free in Long Beach, California, by appointment only
• Domestic shipping: Generally 1–5 business days after processing, depending on the shipping method
• International shipping: Delivery times vary; expedited shipping is recommended for perishable products

If actual shipping costs exceed the amount paid, the order will be shipped using the service covered by the customer’s payment. Shipping overages may be refunded when applicable.

Customs and Fees

International customers are responsible for customs duties, taxes, agricultural restrictions, and clearance fees. These charges are not included in the product or shipping price.

Returns and Returned Packages

• Shipping and service fees are nonrefundable.
• Perishable products, including Obi Kola and Attare, are final sale after shipment.

Most packages are insured through the shipping carrier. Carrier delays, losses, or shipping damage may require a claim using the tracking number, photographs, receipts, and order confirmation.
